The City of Arkansas City will continue its annual fire hydrant flushing program beginning Monday, June 23, 2025, with crews moving into southeast Arkansas City.
Environmental Services Department personnel will begin flushing in Section 2, which includes 101 fire hydrants. This section encompasses areas along and south of Washington Avenue, stretching to Lincoln Avenue and the southern city limits, and east of A Street, including the Sleeth Addition.
Flushing in Section 2 is scheduled to continue through at least July 11. Work will take place Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
During this time, water customers in the area may experience temporary discoloration or low water pressure. Most discoloration can be resolved by running cold water through a faucet for several minutes. If the issue persists, or if there is a noticeable and ongoing drop in water pressure, residents are encouraged to contact the Environmental Services Department:
Residents are also advised not to do laundry if water is discolored, as this may result in permanent staining of clothing. If laundry is affected, residents should leave the items wet and call the numbers listed above. A special detergent designed to remove stains will be delivered to the affected address.
“We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience during this important annual maintenance effort,” said Kyle Blubaugh, Environmental Services Superintendent. “Hydrant flushing helps ensure water quality and keeps our system operating safely and efficiently.”
