One regular meeting annually, on the third Thursday in September at 5:15 PM at the Arkansas City Water Treatment Facility meeting room, located at 400 W Madison Ave.

Code Reference

Municipal Code Part II, Chapter 14, Article VII, Section 14-200 establishes a nine-member board to oversee licensing and regulation of the building trades in Arkansas City.

Purpose

Establish criteria for licensing and regulating persons, firms, or corporations desiring to engage in any of the defined building trades. The board also functions as the Board of Building Appeals to hear and decide appeals of orders, decisions or determinations made by the code enforcement officer relative to the application and interpretation of city-adopted building codes and regulations, and contractor license laws.

Membership

All members are appointed by the City Commission

Two members represent electricians. These must be either two master electricians or one master and one journeyman.
Two members represent plumbers. These must be either two master plumbers or one master and one journeyman.
Two members represent heating, air conditioning, or refrigeration contractors. These must be either two master specialists or one master and one journeyman mechanical specialist.
Three members serve as at-large representatives. These may be general, building, residential, or limited contractors, or citizens familiar with the Arkansas City Building Code.

Term

Terms are staggered so that no more than one representative from each category (electrician, plumber, mechanical specialist, or at-large) finishes a term in the same year.
Electrician, plumber, and mechanical specialist members serve two-year terms.
At-large members serve three-year terms.
