Beginning August 16, 2025, and continuing through Labor Day, September 1, 2025, the Arkansas City Police Department will join law enforcement agencies across Kansas in the You Drink. You Drive. You Lose. enforcement campaign. This coordinated effort aims to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities caused by impaired driving.
Preliminary 2024 data from Kansas shows 83 people lost their lives and more than 1,100 were injured in crashes involving an alcohol-impaired driver. Driving under the influence is illegal, and even one drink can impair judgment, reasoning, and muscle coordination—putting both the driver and others at risk.
“Driving after consuming alcohol or any impairing substance is a choice,” said Arkansas City Police Chief Jim Holloway. “This campaign is a reminder to think about how your decisions affect not just you, but your family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. If you drive impaired, you are far more likely to crash—and that crash is far more likely to result in serious injury or death.”
The Arkansas City Police Department urges everyone to plan ahead. Designate a sober driver or call a friend or family member if you have been drinking.
“And always wear your seat belt—it’s your best defense against impaired drivers. Every trip. Every time,” Holloway said.
