Animal Control

Animal Control is responsible for protecting the health and safety of citizens and their pets in the City of Arkansas City. Some of the responsibilities of the Animal Control Officer include impounding stray animals, abandoned, abused, dangerous, injured animals along with animals in violation of city ordinances.  Other Animal Control services provided to the citizens include:

  • Enforcement of the City of Arkansas City Municipal Code
  • Impound stray, sick or injured domestic animals and/or wildlife
  • Respond to animal complaints
  • Investigate reports of aggressive animals, animal neglect or abuse
  • Pick up and disposal of dead animals
  • Provide the citizens with information regarding responsible pet ownership and the humane treatment of animals

All uninjured dogs and cats taken into custody by the Animal Control Officer will be transported to the Cowley County Humane Society. If determined, the animal's owner will be responsible for the fees associated with the Humane Society and may also be issued a citation from the Arkansas City Police Department. 

If you are in need of animal control, please contact dispatch at (620)-441-4547. Cowley County Emergency Communications is available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.  When the Animal Control officer is not available, animal complaints will be dispatched to Arkansas City Police Officers.
