Arkansas City Police Increase DUI Enforcement Ahead of New Year’s

The Arkansas City Police Department joins law enforcement agencies across the state in educating the public about the importance of driving sober. Drivers can expect increased law enforcement presence on local roads during the statewide Taking Down DUI campaign, which runs Dec. 26–Jan. 2.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about 34 people in the United States die every day in drunk-driving crashes. That’s one person every 42 minutes. These deaths are all preventable.

If you drink, don’t drive. Being a responsible driver is simple:
• Plan a safe ride home before the party. If you drink, don’t drive—call a rideshare, a taxi, or a sober friend.
• If someone has been drinking, take their keys and arrange a sober ride home.
• If you see an impaired driver, contact local law enforcement.
